Return to work with the Morgan Sindall Infrastructure Returnship Programme

Morgan Sindall Infrastructure is now inviting applications to the third intake of its award-winning Returnship programme.

The Morgan Sindall Infrastructure programme is similar to an internship – an initial three month paid placement will be offered to successful applicants, with a view to securing a permanent position. The placement will serve as a staged return, offering the opportunity for individuals to re-engage with working life, initially on a part to full time basis, all the time developing skills and competencies required to work with a leading UK contractor.

As part of the Returnship programme, the company is looking for people at all levels, who have taken a voluntary career break of at least 18 months or more. Applicants may have left employment to run their own business, raise children or care for a relative. They may have had an illness themselves which stopped them from working but are now well enough to return to work.

Katie Smith, HR director at Morgan Sindall Infrastructure, says: “Since its launch in 2017, our programme has attracted a wide variety of applicants with a range of skills and experience. Many of our applicants, had received negative reactions about their career break from other businesses and recruiters when they had tried to return to employment. The Morgan Sindall Infrastructure Returnship programme allows applicants, who may have been overlooked in the past, the chance to thrive in a role which suits their skills and experience in an environment which is supportive and flexible.”

Ezekiel Olorunnipa, decided to return to university to study for a masters degree in Civil and Structural Engineering. He applied to the Morgan Sindall Infrastructure Returnship programme in 2018 and is now working as an assistant engineer on a framework scheme. Ezekiel says: “Applying for this scheme was by far the best recruitment process I have ever experienced for a job application. Overall the programme has provided me with a great opportunity to learn and the chance to get a permanent role at the end is a big motivation.”

Another one of the previous year’s successful applicants is Paul Alvarez, who was running a small business while awaiting an opportunity to work in civil engineering. Now working as an assistant design engineer, Paul says: It’s been a fantastic opportunity for me and I’m sure it can be for others who want to make their aspirations a reality.”
